Therapeutic

Therapeutic massage is the manipulation of the soft tissue structures of the body to prevent and alleviate pain, discomfort, muscle spasm and stress. Massage therapy is shown to improve functioning of the circulatory, lymphatic, and nervous systems. It also may improve the rate at which the body recovers from injury and illness. There are many types of massage therapy including Swedish massage, sports massage, structural functional movement integration, connective tissue massage and the eastern massages, as in Japanese shiatsu, anma hoshino Chinese anmo and tuina Thai massage and Ayurvedic massage.

Massage can be classified by technique or by effect, as for comfort or relaxation for kinesthetic awareness, etc. Multiple beneficial effects of massage therapy have been documented including improved mood state affect and decreased anxiety.
