For Chronic Back Pain, Massage Recommend To Relieve Pain
Massage recommended for sufferers of chronic back pain according to a new report by the American College of Physicians. The report was highlighted by Dr. Jonathan LaPook, the chief medical correspondent for the CBS Evening News. In an attempt to get away from current tendencies in the medical community to prescribe pharmaceutical pain medicine, many times addictive and often abused opioid pills, the medical establishment is finally approving what used to be considered alternative treatments like massage, chiropractic, qigong and forms of energy healing.
In the report, Dr. LaPook noted that the physician’s stated these therapies “for pain lasting less than three months, include heat wraps, massage, acupuncture and spinal manipulation.” In addition, “for pain lasting more than three months, treatments include stretching and strengthening exercises, tai chi, yoga, acupuncture, and mindfulness techniques like meditation to relieve stress.”
The contents of the report can be found here in this video clip from the CBS Evening News.
At Massage Integration, we have helped many clients over the years with minor and chronic back pain issues through our massage therapy services. This is one of the reasons our mobile massage services are so valuable. When you have back pain, it is sometime difficult to have to get dressed, get in the car, drive to a spa, find parking, and walk, sometimes up a flight of stairs, to get to the office of a local spa to get the relief you need. Its is so much easier to relax in the comfort of your home or office and let us deliver the massage to you.

Benefits of Massage
Massage is generally considered part of complementary medicine. It’s increasingly being offered along with standard treatment for a wide range of medical conditions and situations. While more research continues to confirm the benefits of massage, many studies have found massage helpful for:
- Stress relief
- Managing anxiety and depression
- Pain relief
- Increased Circulation
- Release stiffness
- Blood pressure control
- Infant growth
- Enhanced healing and rehab
- Sports-related injuries
- Boosting immunity
- Cancer treatment
- Deeper restful night’s sleep
Beyond the benefits for specific conditions or diseases, some people enjoy massage because it often involves caring, comfort, a sense of empowerment and creating deep connections with their massage therapist. Despite its benefits, massage isn’t meant as a replacement for regular medical care. Let your doctor know you’re trying massage and be sure to follow any standard treatment plans you have.
